Question: Who is the movie anchorman making fun of?

I know the movie anchorman is making fun of some news anchor from san diego but what was his name?

I don't think it's any particular person it's just that there was a time when news anchors were always men and women were really just employed as secretaries to look nice and to make coffee and stuff. It doesn't say in the movie whether it's set in the past or present but the fashion and hairstyles are definitely 1970's.

I heard that the guy's name was also Ron. After googling this, I came up with Ron Hunter. I don't know if they based the movie loosely on him, or if someone realized he fit Ron Burgendy's persona after the fact. Good question.
